Our Getaway Vacation

Last week for spring break we headed for the mountains to do a little snowboarding. We were boring though and didn't take any pictures. Abe bought me a snowboard and all the gear that goes along with it so that I would have no excuses not to learn how to snowboard. For those of you that know me know that I am deathly afraid of being on top of hills. In other words I've got a case of acrophobia. But knowing how much my significant other loves to snowboard and knowing how much people who snowboard love the sport to death, I knew that if I overcame my fear and learned how to do it I could fall in love with the sport also. I took a class and by the end of the day I became quite confident at the bunny hill that I was able to try a longer route. I do have to admit that it is quite fun once you get the hang of it. But according to Abe the real fun doesn't come until you get to the blue and black diamonds. OK so I can see why. I'm sure going downhill at fast speeds gives you the same adrenaline rush one gets while running (the runners high). Maybe next season I can give those blues a try.

We also went snowmobiling on fresh powder. Now that was a blast. Except for the part where I was run into by another snowmobiler but that's another story. The snowmobiling was followed by a nice dinner in a quaint cabin nestled in the mountains.

One day we also enjoyed some hot springs in the middle of a snowstorm. That was extremely relaxing.

All in all great vacation. We used our friends bonus time share and was able to enjoy a condo for less than 50 bucks a night. Having a full kitchen also enabled us to save even more money by eating most of our meals at home.

Abe's Homecoming

A little over a month ago Abe finally returned home safe after a 15 month deployment in Iraq. This was his first tour of duty thankfully and will probably be his last as he is getting stationed with a nondeployable training unit at Fort Bliss. He worked with many soldliers who were on their 3rd deployment with each tour being at least 12 months in length and many of whom also had spouses and children back at home. It certainly takes a unique person to volunteer to serve the country. I am so proud of my husband and everything that he has done. He exhibits such traits as character, strength, dignity, courage, and dedication.
